This film is a portrait of the people, places, history, decay, preservation, and life as I witness it in the rural midwest. I travel to small towns in Missouri to find a world rarely seen in modern media: modern rural life. Through chance encounters with strangers, I have the opportunity to learn about people I might not otherwise have the chance to meet, and catch a glimpse of ordinary rural life. Through these individual encounters, a larger yet ambiguous portrait of the human experience and what matters most to those who remain in their rural settlements is formed. As someone who is an outsider to rural midwestern life, I find that there is so much beauty and an endlessly rich repository of stories to tell in rural spaces. This film is attentive to the charm of the ordinary.
